Leadership at Siemens: Global Team Empowerment and Innovation

During my tenure at Siemens, I had the privilege of leading a global team of controls and software engineers across four continents. This dynamic team spanned Sweden, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the US, collectively responsible for establishing a global agile collaboration framework. Our mission was clear: to enhance user interfaces and fortify the security of our control systems.

Our global initiative focused on optimizing user experiences and bolstering the security of control systems. By implementing an agile collaboration framework, we fostered seamless communication and innovation across borders. This framework not only streamlined development efforts but also propelled our products to new heights of user-centric design and robust security.

In the US and Canada, I spearheaded the development of control systems and software on the Siemens Simatic platform for the SGTA35, SGTA45, and SGTA65 product lines. This initiative led to a remarkable reduction in product cost and standardized hardware across the board. Our team’s dedication to innovation not only elevated the performance of these products but also significantly enhanced their market competitiveness.

Locally, I assumed responsibility for the product development teams during the groundbreaking SGTA45 mobile gas turbine package project. This innovation revolutionized the power delivery landscape by enabling critical areas to receive power within days, a stark contrast to the years traditionally required for setting up a power plant. This accomplishment represents a milestone in ensuring rapid response in critical need situations.

Our engineering team undertook a monumental task in redeveloping the SGTA65 package. The result was a configurable baseline, allowing customers to tailor their power plants to meet their specific needs. This not only provided unparalleled flexibility for our clients but also reduced engineering effort required for design completion and delivery by an astounding 60%.

The implementation of Agile practices across all engineering teams not only revolutionized our product development process but also instilled a sense of autonomy and collaboration among our teams. By engaging key stakeholders across the business throughout the development process, our teams were able to develop and deliver these two development programs in under 18 months where previous efforts took 3-5 years.
